Thump

Sometimes it comes out of the dark.

One minute nothing, then the next it starts

Bright sparks of light from behind your eyes

And you’re down

Thump

Sometimes you see it coming and there’s nothing you can do

And you just got to take it. Grit teeth. Get through.

And you wonder when somebody’s gonna notice that you’re gone

And how long this is gonna go on.

Sometimes you think it’s coming and you put up your hands and flinch

Sometimes you’re sure it’s imminent

. . . And it isn’t
